Getting ready for Christmas and New Year.

The sun is shining and the guests who visit us every year are bringing our favourite chocolates

We tasted Chef Phudon’s chocolate creations for this year and read a delectable menu – I am hungry just writing this blog.  Khun Om has shown us the clothes that the staff will be wearing and the decorations for the beach. The tree and it’s decorations has being erected in the Lobby of the hotel and the presents are scattered around…
Here are the themes of the celebrations:

Latino Fiesta
– a Cape Panwa Beach Party for Christmas

We will have a Latin Dance and a Fire Twirler show, Carol Singers, Games to play on the stage and prizes to be won, a lucky draw, sprit balloons and or course ‘Santa Claus will be coming to visit us’.

Paradise Thailand
– a Cape Panwa Thai New Year

We will have elements of Thailand which make it so special which includes a Temple Fair, a Floating Market, a Rhythm of Silk show, a Pom Pom show, a Human Puppet show, a lucky draw, fireworks and a DJ to dance those last minutes away…

See you here – Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Cape Panwa goes active with Kiteboarding

We normally write about the guests of the hotel relaxing under gently wafting coconut palm fronds and watching the surf calmly breaking along the peaceful beach.

But last weekend the gloves came off… and it wasn’t a Muay Thai boxing fight organised by our very own local Muay Thai trainer!

We’ve witnessed some pretty strange things that people pack at home to bring for us – from marmalade (for Tim) and Celebration Chocolates (for Pavinee) as well as football shirts for the staff (much appreciated by the way) – but we had never seen anything like this before.

A repeat guest brought with him something very different this time – a very large bright orange kite, which made us wonder if he was asked to unpack it at customs. That would have been messy!

On Sunday he unfurled his kite on the beach and was promptly yanked up into the air by the monsoon breezes whilst he was still on his (small) surfboard – he then entertained us all, sitting on the beach, with somersaults and a variety of clever twists and turns.

Wonderful to watch, I must admit, and I must add that we do not (yet) have this equipment here but I would love to watch him again – a big ‘thank you’ from Tim and all the guests on the beach for a great show.

Phuket Fun Run

Tim decided that he would join the Laguna Fun Run. (Ed. I do wonder how they can connect Fun and Run in the same sentence – it is clearly an error but TIT – ‘This is Thailand’).

Tim thought that the Fun Run might be a
Cape Panwa Hotel’ attempt but…

The GM Claude was more than happy for Cape Panwa Hotel to be involved with the event and happily provided Tim with a T-Shirt and a hat for the occasion.

The Fun Run started at 8:00 am.  It immediately began to drizzle and the runners covered up and prepared for the worst – that happily never came.

Charlie Quinn from the Australia was the winner in a time of 20 minutes and 34 seconds and Tim was 133rd in a time of 40 minutes and 51 seconds.

Tim got his medal and celebrated with a beer for breakfast – any takers for next year?

Happy Birthday H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej!

H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej is a very respected figure by the whole of the Thai nation. On Sunday the 5th of December it was his 83rd birthday.

Throughout Thailand festivities to celebrate this occasion were organised.

On December 5 there was an offering of food to the Buddhist monks in Phuket Town and a great many people (including Tim) attended this special event.

The signing of a ‘Birthday Wish Book’ followed the offering of food to the Buddhist monks.

Then there was a violin performance in Patong (Ed. Not the usual sort of entertainment on offer in Sin City, I can tell you) and devotional candles were lit.

The ceremony was concluded with a special candle-lighting ceremony at Sapan Hin.

If you’d like to wish H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej a happy birthday

Shelly and Huw - What Dreams are made Of

A great deal of thought was put into Shelly and Huw’s special wedding day.

There were candle holders, glass diamonds, flowers were carefully chosen, invitations were crafted, books were signed, the music was selected and the list of preparations seemed endless.

Huw arrived with his group of ‘Merry Men’ on a sputtering long-tail fishing boat – one of his band narrowly avoiding falling off and ending up in the drink.

Then Shelly breezed out of Panwa House and was welcomed with smiles and laughter from her friends and family.

Their vows were made; rings exchanged; champagne flowed; a fire dancer performed, to much aplomb and ‘spirit balloons’ lit, subsequently floating out into the night sky of southwestern Phuket.

You see? Dreams can still come true at Cape Panwa…

Wedding Testimonial from Shelly and Huw

They really went above and beyond to make sure that it was everything we had ever dreamed of.
Thank you to you for making our day possible and the best wedding that w
e or our guests have ever been to, you brought our dream to life”.

Flowers and Pretty Ladies

On Sunday we had a celebration involving lights, flowers
and pretty Thai ladies.

It was the celebration of Loy Krathong – a traditional festival day, popular with our staff because it means that the lovely ladies of Cape Panwa get to dress up in traditional Thai costume, have their hair done and ask guests to buy roses for them.

The staff and guests made krathongs (banana-trunk floats adorned with flowers and candles), wishes were made and the krathongs were floated out to sea, making a beautiful vista.

Suparat with Niklas
Our guests bought roses for everybody and Suparat from Kantary Bay was our Miss Noppamus 2010.

Happy Loy Krathong to everyone! And we hope that your wishes all come true!
