Happy Valentines
Cape Panwa started Valentine’s Day early with the quiet wedding of Rosala and Roberto.
Then flowers were delivered to the guests from their partners and a bouquet for Kessera (who sits at the taxi desk) from an unknown admirer…
Later in the day a spectacular long drum-parade of children from the local school wound its way along the beach, accompanying Mike, who was getting married to Tanyagon. Drinks and canapés followed their ceremony at Panwa House and the evening finished with spirit balloons soaring high into the night sky.
At the same time there was a special set dinner at Top of the Reef where dining couples were served special drinks and a violinist played whilst they ate.

Special Weddings at Cape Panwa
At the same time as the ‘organised’ (Tim really tried, honest) events of Christmas and New Year, we had two weddings and thankfully no funerals.
The first wedding was between Ying and Mazen. This was a meeting of two people who have lived in Phuket for some time and had simply fallen in love.
How more classic can you get than that?
The special day began with Mazen and his friends arriving on a long-tail boat together and Mazen waving a pink flag that declared his love for Ying.
Ying then breezed along the beach with her father who gave her away in an emotional ceremony on the beach – surrounded by a lot of friends.
At the end of the ceremony Ying and Mazen poured some champagne to share and then quietly disappeared whilst their friends enjoyed it all.
Drinks were shared, followed by dinner at good old Panwa House – followed by a fire show and spirit balloons.
The second wedding was of Marina and Vjeko. I do believe that this was the first Croatian marriage ever at Cape Panwa.
It was a graceful and touching ceremony. Special vows were exchanged and the smiles on the couple's faces said it all.
Congratulations Ying and Mazen

Shelly and Huw - What Dreams are made Of
A great deal of thought was put into Shelly and Huw’s special wedding day.
There were candle holders, glass diamonds, flowers were carefully chosen, invitations were crafted, books were signed, the music was selected and the list of preparations seemed endless.
Huw arrived with his group of ‘Merry Men’ on a sputtering long-tail fishing boat – one of his band narrowly avoiding falling off and ending up in the drink.
Then Shelly breezed out of Panwa House and was welcomed with smiles and laughter from her friends and family.
Their vows were made; rings exchanged; champagne flowed; a fire dancer performed, to much aplomb and ‘spirit balloons’ lit, subsequently floating out into the night sky of southwestern Phuket.
You see? Dreams can still come true at Cape Panwa…
A Wedding Testimonial from Shelly and Huw
“Cape Panwa Resort created for us the best day of our lives!
Extremely responsive, professional and empathetic to our needs from the first day of contact.
They really went above and beyond to make sure that it was everything we had ever dreamed of.
Thank you to you for making our day possible and the best wedding that we or our guests have ever been to, you brought our dream to life”.

Come rain or shine
Emma and Ian came with their family and friends from all around the world to celebrate their special day.
Ian told us that whatever Emma wants, ‘make sure she gets it’ – and she wanted ‘come rain or shine’ to walk along the beach in her wedding dress with her father and bridesmaids.
The strange weather that we are having in Phuket at the moment did not take anything away from Emma and Ian’s special day – but it certainly did add a little ‘unpredictability’ to the day – Tim had to have a double espresso on the beach before starting.
Flowers were thrown, the cake was cut and the elephant patted – a beautiful day was shared on the beach and dinner was had at Panwa House.
Congratulations, Emma and Ian!

A Baba wedding weekend in Phuket
A ‘Baba’-style wedding is really something quite different from the norm and last weekend 18 couples decided to tie the knot in this fashion unique to Penang in Malaysia and Phuket – two destinations that share not a little when it comes to cultural similarities. Basically, a Baba wedding involves a local-born girl marrying a Chinese descended boy or any mélange of the above – but it is worthy of note if you’re interested in local Phuket culture.
Traditionally, the marriage ceremony used to be a thinly-veiled statement of the wealth and social standing of the [mostly Chinese] parents but nowadays the tradition is simply carried on by people who wish to continue on in this vein to maintain cultural fluidity.
The Wedding that we went to witness was a typical ‘Phuket Baba’ affair.
The Wedding started early evening with a cocktail party on the lawns of Hongyok House in Phuket Town – there was a full orchestra and plenty of Thai people dressed up in their finery and of course a plethora of nibbles.
The next day started very early for the ladies (04:00) and the men had to be at the TAT offices by 07:00. Here the men signed the necessary paperwork and were taken to their partners – a journey which involved small envelopes being passed from hand to hand and a replenished cup of Chinese Tea every few minutes.
Their partners then lit candles and burnt fake money at the Chinese Dragon shrine in Phuket Town. After this they were driven through Phuket Town to the Thaihua museum, where more photographs were taken.
After this they were driven to the Jui Tui Temple where they asked for blessings from the Chinese gods.
A fascinating weekend for us all, and good luck to the couples.

Congratulations - Sam and Jo
The day before their beach wedding Sam and Jo treated their guests to a sunset trip on the Panwa Princess Yacht. They also had a 'bubbly' party at Panwa House.
The wedding ceremony itself was something to behold as the couple positively glowed with happiness as they exchanged rings. The post-wedding party comprised a barbecue, lots of beer and tunes - followed by fireworks and lighting 'spirit balloons' that sailed up high in the sky.
All the very best Sam and Jo.
