Games at Cape Panwa

There are a number of new activities in the Games Room that will keep your kids amused when they've had enough sea, sun and sand, ranging from simple colouring to making the biggest tower possible.

There are also competitive games such as table football, snakes & ladders, chess, tumbling monkey, ludo, table tennis, Go, Connect 4.

And if you choose to surf the net whilst watching your children, there's a WiFi connection and even TV.

SOS Toys

We wrote a post in November regarding a special daytrip that Cape Panwa Hotel organised with the SOS Children Foundation of Thailand, which is under the patronage of H.M. the Queen.

The staff at Cape Panwa Hotel have not forgotten them and recently organised a Christmas and New Year’s Collection of toys and clothing for these children.

The collection was made after New Year and the gifts were chosen carefully. We packed a car with the gifts which were all gratefully received by the children.

A library and more

At Cape Panwa Hotel and Kantary Bay you'll find libraries for you to borrow books left by other guests and for you in turn to leave books for other guests to read.

There are three libraries at Cape Panwa Hotel - in the Round House, the Games Room and the Cape Lounge. I know that Tim is quite happy looking after them for us as he tidies the books daily at these locations!

He even takes his work home with him - reading the books to ensure that there are no pages missing.

Tim will also monitor the length of time that a particular book is in the library (I think that he is a frustrated librarian) and he will send books that have not been read to Bangkok.

In Bangkok these books are taken to prisons for foreigners who are serving time in them to read.

A Piano on the Beach

Cape Panwa will always be the ‘Grand Old Dame of Phuket’ to quote a local writer but now (as we have written in this blog) the Old Dame has a QR code and wireless internet throughout the hotel.

Another introduction was the Flat-Screen wall-mounted television  screens in all rooms. With these televisions came an in-house television channel that means that you can relax and view information about all of 15 properties across Thailand.

The most common question that we get at the Front Office is whether the guests can purchase the music which plays in the background on the in-house television channel.

The music (to quote the CD cover) is “melodious piano sound sifts through the wave’s whisper and a serenading orchestra of nature".

The CD is called "Piano on the Beach" and Chamras Saewataporn performs it and it’s published by Green Music (email and website).

Close your eyes, play the CD and remember your holiday at Cape Panwa.

A Golf Cart Tale

Tim’s hopes were raised sky high when he heard that the hotel was purchasing a Golf Cart.

Did this mean that the hotel was going to buy him a real set of golf clubs? After all, his Chinese Nike set were beginning to show signs of demise OR were they going to pay him to play golf with the guests?

Neither: The Golf Cart was bought to ferry guests from the lobby to the newly constructed Junior Suites in T, U and V wings.

The bell boys will be taking care of the golf cart and in the meantime Tim’s golf hasn't got much better…

The Rooftop Pool

Our General Manager Marc recently opened the Rooftop Pool on the top of Cape Panwa's new wing.

Dancing girls, fireworks and chocolate cake were ordered but Marc asked us to save them for Chinese New Year… coming very soon.  We got Robert instead (a Gold Privilege Card guest) to jump in for us, because Marc had not found his bathing trunks yet.

The rooftop pool has impressive views – you can see Big Buddha in the distance as well as Hornbill Island.

Next time you stay with us – have a look, it’s quiet (at the moment) but VERY hot so don’t forget your sunscreen!

See you there – with your bathers and sunscreen.

The Local Market

The days recently got a little longer and the air little drier recently - Loy Krathong was apparently the end of the rain and the start of the dry season.

This also means that the local people in Borae (the village where Cape Panwa is located) start to fill the roads at the bottom of the hill with a variety of different things.  The people arrive on their specially converted motorbikes with any assortment of attachments.

As an aside I wonder if there is any guide as to how large the gas cylinder perched on the back is allowed to be?

The food stalls are a permanent (except when it rains) fixture on the promenade opposite Kantary Bay. There is always a selection of roti, Traditional Thai coffees and an assortment of barbecued satay and sausages.

As the night gets longer there are new arrivals – t-shirts, sun-hats, DVDs, wood carvings, dresses, handbags, watches and a plethora of other bits and pieces.

If you can’t find what you want there take a trip to Patong or the Weekend Market.

See you there.
